YORK school pupils will feature in the Channel 4 television programme The Sex Education Show.
Around 130 pupils at York High School were filmed while being taught about male puberty and visiting a fertility clinic in Sheffield to witness artificial insemination and the moment life is created.
Filming at the Cornlands Road school began in March and took place over nearly six days. Gerry Moran, assistant head at York High School, said: “The school found it a very worthwhile venture in terms of the way the content of the programme was dealt with but also as a learning experience for the pupils about how a TV programme is made.”
The Year Nine, Ten and 11 pupils, aged 13 to 16, volunteered to be filmed and were all given permission by their parents to take part in the programme.
The documentary, which features presenters Anna Richardson and Dr Radha Modgil, included showing the children a live feed of nude models to help demonstrate the theme of male puberty.
At the fertility clinic they were asked to don protective sterilised clothing and gloves before venturing into the laboratories. Mr Moran said the pupils are looking forward to watching the programme: “It’s been a constant question – when it’s going to be on the television. Obviously all the pupils involved are waiting to see if they are going to be on television and they are excited about the prospect of seeing their friends.”
The Sex Education Show series sees the team visiting various secondary schools across the UK.
The programme will aired on Channel 4 at 8pm on Tuesday.
