A TEAM of health experts from the University of York have been presented with a national award.
The midwifery education team from the university’s department of health sciences was presented with the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Award for providing high levels of education in breastfeeding to undergraduate students, at a ceremony at Heslington Hall.
Karen Khan, lead midwife for education at the university, said: “We decided to work with the Baby Friendly Initiative to ensure a high standard of training in breastfeeding for all student midwives graduating from our programme.
“By ensuring that our midwifery students are fully trained in how to help a mother breastfeed her baby, we hope more women will be able to breastfeed their babies for longer.”
Students at the university achieved 100 per cent in an assessment by the BFI for the award, which was launched in the UK in 2005.
