POWER giant Drax has welcomed the Government’s electricity market reform white paper’s recognition of the role of biomass in tackling climate change.
The Renewables Roadmap published with the white paper outlined an action plan to accelerate renewable energy deployment to meet the target of 15 per cent of all energy by 2020.
Dorothy Thompson, chief executive of Drax, said: “That is very much in line with Drax’s focus as we seek to expand our biomass operations. However, we will need an appropriate level of support under the current renewables incentive mechanism.
“To that end, we eagerly await the Government’s proposals for the support levels from April 2013.”
