THE end of the school year will see the close of three classroom-based careers in York.

Maureen Rawcliffe joined Carr Junior School in Acomb in 1976 in the cleaning division and became cleaning supervisor in 1990, before going on to join the lunchtime team, becoming senior supervisor in 1993.

Now she is leaving after 35 years service. Head teacher Caroline Ryder said everyone at the school was sad to see her go.

“It’s an amazing length of service for one school,” she said.

“Maureen’s father worked on the building of the school and she loves to make lunchtimes fun and enjoyable especially at Christmas with her amazing outfits.”

Maureen said: “The best thing for me is seeing the children progress and develop over their four years in school, and feeling I’ve played a tiny part in it.”

Meanwhile, at Bishopthorpe Infants, Year Two teacher Linda Dolman is retiring after 28 years at the school.

Head teacher Becky White said: “Linda will be greatly missed in school, especially for the contribution she’s made to music and maths.

“She’s looking forward to a long and happy retirement.”

Also in the village, at Archbishop of York’s CE School, pupils and staff said a fond farewell to teaching assistant of 22 years, Liv Blacker.

Head teacher Jonathan Green said: “Everyone knows Liv at the school. In her time here she’s taught hundreds of children. She’ll be greatly missed not just in the classroom, but for the extra work she does around school – she’s a great backstop. She’s now looking forward to having a well-earned rest and spending time with her grandson.”
