A LAWYER from York and his wife-to-be are planning a honeymoon with a difference – climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Alistair Scott-Somers, a director at Dickinson Dees, is marrying Nikki Alistair on a beach in Cornwall tomorrow, but they plan to spend the first days of their wedded life on the tallest mountain in Africa.
Alistair said: “It’s not everyone’s idea of a relaxing honeymoon, but it suits us just fine. We had already decided on the date for our wedding but we were also determined to climb Kilimanjaro. Logistically, the only time we could do both was the one immediately after the other.”
Alistair and Nikki, who teaches French and Spanish at Pocklington School, have been training hard and are confident they will conquer the mountain.
Alistair said they would be raising money for Cancer Research UK and The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children, a charity for disabled children that his mother was involved in.
The couple, who live in York, will be treating themselves to a more traditional honeymoon in Italy after their Kilimanjaro adventure.
