I DON’T know of the Bradford incident referred to by R Burton (Letters, July 20), but in the early 1960s I built a “Ford Special” from Ford bits and a new fibreglass body.
As a novice mechanic, I was buying all the DIY motoring magazines for information and ideas.
I well remember reading in one of the magazines (probably Car Mechanics) that a South African had developed a carburettor that mixed water with paraffin successfully for use in internal combustion engines.
I waited in vain for it to come on the market.
