I HAD to write to get rid of some of my frustrations which occurred last Saturday in the York Station area.

I had been offered a lift into York from Dringhouses to connect with a National Express coach to Worcester.

It was pouring with rain. On arrival at the station, the entrance was blocked with cars and taxis, so we decided to go around the one-way system past the memorial and then drop off at the pick-up stop opposite the station in “York’s very own coach station” (a bus stop which would barely hold six people and luggage).

We were tailed by a First York bus whose driver kept his hand on the horn. This is not good enough. Even the National Express coach drivers dislike coming to York because they cannot park easily to offload and pick up passengers.

Every big city has an excellent bus station. York residents and tourists have put up with this situation for long enough. Now it should be taking priority before we lose more visitors.

Incidentally, don’t tell me to get a taxi next time, as it costs £10 each way from Dringhouses to the station. It was cheaper to go return to Worcester.
