The only place to be this evening is the York Racecourse. Following the EBK Lyric Stakes, Blondie will take to the stage.

Scouting For Girls headline tomorrow night, but for those of us of a certain vintage, Blondie are the undisputed main attraction of the Music Showcase Weekend.

Today’s concert is an extension of Blondie’s ultra-successful Endangered Species Tour, which showcases all those wonderful greatest hits and selections from new Panic Of Girls.

The album has been available for a few weeks now, imaginatively and stunningly presented as a collector’s special edition. Inside the handsome silver-embossed cover, a well researched and fact-filled magazine, posters and button badge set supplement the piece de resistance, Blondie’s new studio set of songs.

Debbie Harry’s distinctive vocals, the arrangements and instantly accessible pop tracks will be heaven for die-hard fans.

Mother and What I Heard are the obvious single, but a highly surprising cover of Sophia George’s Girlie Girlie is the absolute high spot. Similar in feel to Blondie’s cover of The Tide Is High, the reggae pop fusion of Girlie Girlie could and should be the summer hit of 2011.

Hopefully the rain will stay away, but regardless of the weather, those lucky people at the racecourse tonight are in for a fantastic time.
