THE classic Tangmere is hitting the tracks once again to let passengers experience an exciting piece of history.
The 34067 Tangmere is an un-rebuilt Battle of Britain Class Pacific 4-6-2 locomotive, which was built in 1947 in Brighton for use on southern railway express passenger trains.
The vintage machinery will be hauling the famous 1950s and 1960s rail carriages of the Scarborough Flyer from York to the Yorkshire coast over the summer, starting yesterday and continuing for seven more weekly Friday departures.
Nigel Dobbing, managing director of the Railway Touring Company, said: “The Scarborough Flyer will be a trip down memory lane for many who, as children, enjoyed seaside excursions.”
