Please allow me to recount a true story.
Last summer, while in the Tower Street area, I came across an elderly confused gentleman wandering the street and clearly lost.
On questioning him, I learned that he was in York for the day, had come by coach, but he had no idea where the coach was in order to return for his homeward journey.
He knew he lived in Liverpool, was on holiday in Scarborough, and that he was due to be back at the coach to leave at 4pm. That was all I could ascertain, and by then it was 3.50pm.
Hurriedly, I invited him into my car, and thinking on my feet, decided I only had time for the obvious – Clarence Street. He sat beside me, so docile, as I hurried across the city.
Arriving, I searched the dozens of coaches in both sections, and just as I as giving up hope, spotted an anxious driver, on the lookout, and very grateful to have found his passenger.
My point to this story is, that if this lunatic idea of selling off Clarence Street goes ahead and various dropping-off points are created, it will undoubtedly confuse people.
I know my York – visitors probably do not.
