THE Easingwold Maize Maze has been unveiled to visitors and promises a challenging day for those who want to lose themselves in a bit of fun this summer.
Now in its ninth year, the five-acre maze opened on Saturday to crowds of people looking to complete the tough challenge, which involves finding five clues hidden around the maze.
Farmer Paul Caygill, the man behind the attraction, said: “I know the route to the middle, but I haven’t found all the clues yet. It’s a stiff challenge.”
He said this year will also feature magician Phil Grainger, who will be at the Maize Maze each Monday.
Paul, who is hoping to break last year’s record attendance, said he will be opening at 10am every day to satisfy public demand.
He said: “This is the ninth year we have created the Maize Maze and with Phil’s help we are confident of making Monday’s a magical experience for everyone.
“However, there are plenty of reasons to visit the Maze every day of the week with a huge number of activities to suit all ages”.
He said: “You find that people will come all day and you get serial visitors who keep coming back. You can go in and find a couple of clues then come out then break for lunch then go back in.”
Visitors can also enjoy a giant inflatable slide, an inflatable fun zone, go karts, swingball, football, volleyball, games, feeding the animals and digging for treasure on Easingwold’s only beach.
ARE you thinking of visiting the Easingwold Maize Maze and, if so, can you beat the time of our reporter Richard Catton?
Determined visitors usually take around three-quarters of an hour to find the clues and Richard was almost bang on — emerging from the challenge after 45 minutes and 23 seconds.
The Easingwold Maize Maze is signposted just off the northern roundabout on the A19.

Naked ambition at York Maze
THIS brave fellow was one about 200 visitors who decided to abandon their clothing for a special naturists’ night at York Maze, near Elvington.
The annual naked night on Saturday was the sixth year maze owner, and local farmer, Tom Pearcy has worked with British Naturism to host the evening.
Tom said: “We had a good turn out, but it got a bit chilly so there were a few clothes going on at the end of the evening. This has become an annual event now on the naturist calendar.”
The York Maze this year features the face of Harry Potter made up of 10km of pathways on an 18-acre site.
