On reading the article on the Hungate project and the water voles, l had to smile cynically (The Press, July 21).
It is good that money is being spent to further the wildlife, but how about the rest of the Foss!
l live by the Foss along Huntington Road near to the small bridge crossing it, and would like to see some work done along this stretch for a change instead of all the money spent in York for the pleasure of day-tripping tourists.
The stretch of the river just prior to the small bridge along to New Earswick is in dire need of dredging and cleaning up.
When l first moved here 50 years ago the bottom of the river could not be seen, it was nice and deep and relatively clean and we had less flooding due to this. So why can’t some cash be spent on this stretch that affects more people, eg residents and walkers alike.
Plus, if the ecologist for Hungate would like to walk the Foss Way he will see we have lots of water voles and other wildlife that would benefit from a deeper, cleaner river at this end.
