A couple from near York swapped Yorkshire tea for royal tea when they attended the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
Pocklington resident Wayne Christie, team manager of the Yorkshire Waters Contact Centre in Bradford, travelled to London with his wife Linda to attend the garden party.
The event celebrated people from all works of life who are significant contributors to various charities and organisations, and Wayne was nominated to attend because of his work with the charity Water Wheelers.
The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, Sophie Wessex and the Duke of Gloucester circulated among the guests following a military band’s performance of the national anthem. The Royal Party were then served tea while the guests separately consumed about 7,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake.
