A Knit and natter group from Acomb has raised £1,355 for York Hospital’s Maternity Unit.
The Fairfax Court group has spent the last six months holding raffles, cake and charity stalls in a bid to fund a new cot for the hospital.
This has seen them use their talents to knit baby items such as teddies, hats, booties, mittens, cardigans and jumpers.
They also knitted baby hats for the Special Care Baby Unit. The Lots Of Cots Charity is aiming to raise enough money to replace all 36 cots in the unit, which cost £1,355 each. Twenty-three have now been funded.
Lucy Watson, fundraising manager at the York Teaching Hospital Charity, said: “We are so grateful to the knit and natter group for all their efforts to raise enough money to fund another one of the cots we need for the unit.”
She said people could also sponsor an individual cot, which would include a plaque with their details on.
