A NORTH Yorkshire man has just completed five marathons in five days, raising cash for Cancer Research.

Mark Anderson, whose mum Jean died of cancer a year ago, completed the 134-mile Whitehaven to Sunderland coast-to-coast trip.

Mark, from Selby, and his family are raising cash for the charity in memory of Jean. His latest fundraising effort finished on the first anniversary of her death.

Mark, 34, was accompanied on the run by his father Malcolm, who cycled the course as “back-up”.

Setting out earlier this year to raise £3,000 in 2011 for the charity, the family have now raised £2,300, competing in various 10K and 5K events, with Malcolm and Mark competing in the Great North Swim over one mile in Lake Windermere.

Mark’s wife Helen, sisters Dawn and Deborah and friend Jessica have also competed in fundraising events.

Mark and his dad will compete in the final event in September, the Great North Run.
