RESIDENTS in Selby have been reminded of their rights after builders have been reported cold calling properties in the town.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said a white Ford pick-up truck had been reported to them after cold calling houses around Selby.

The vehicle and its occupants had travelled from Peterborough, and were offering building work to residents. The police spokesman urged any householder considering building work to make sure they were given a written quote for the work, which displays the company name and address.

He also said householders should be given a seven day cooling-off period during which time they have the right to cancel the contract, and also have the right to be completely satisfied with the work, and should be charged a reasonable price.

Anyone with concerns should phone police on 0845 6060247 or Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.
