RESIDENTS are being warned not to fall for a door-to-door fish-selling scam which is operating in York.
City of York Council’s trading standards team has received reports, mostly from elderly people, of doorstep callers offering what they claim is fresh fish in “pensioner packs” or “freezer packs” without being told how much it will cost.
One of the gang then fills up the victim’s freezer and then demands about £200, but when the buyers try to cook the fish, they have discovered many of the packs are not labelled and their contents are inedible.
Anyone who believes they have been approached by those behind the scam should phone Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.
