CONTROVERSIAL plans to identify a site for a permanent gipsy and travellers’ site in Selby will be discussed at a meeting of Selby District Council’s executive today.
Thousands of public responses were sent to the council when their Site Allocations Development Plan Document was announced earlier this year to find potential development sites around the district.
The updated document will look at the preferred options for the developments, and has included comments received through the public consultation.
Coun John Mackman, who will present the report to the meeting, said: “We’re on a journey with this document, and there’s still a great deal of work to do. However, it’s important that we take a hard look at this stage to see where we are in light of the comments received in the public consultation.”
When the plan was first announced, it identified 60 potential sites across Selby district where ten new gipsy and traveller pitches could be located, including Brayton, Eggborough, Kellington and Hemingbrough, and was discussed during Prime Minister’s Question Time in the House of Commons.
