LEEDS, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce has puts its support behind York Apprenticeship Challenge.
The chamber, which is working to help foster links between schools and employers in Leeds, also takes on its own apprentices.
Susie Cawood, head of York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said it was looking for businesses to take on apprentices and encouraging its members to take part in the York Apprenticeship Challenge to find 100 apprenticeship opportunities in 100 days, launched by The Press, City of York Council, the National Apprenticeship Service and other key partners.
“We’re definitely signed up to this,” she said.
The chamber has had a very good experience of apprentices, she said, with Sarah Welsh, who joined four years ago now an events manager, and Jade Daniel, an apprentice in the finance department, who has now been with them for about two years.
“It has been fantastic for us. Their apprenticeships have finished and they have gone on to stay with us, with Jade carrying on studying and Sarah taking on an enormous amount of responsibility as events manager.”
