Phew! Last week’s column – finding property to rent which would actually allow families with pets across the doorstep – was a bit of a struggle.

This week we simply couldn’t face making all that effort all over again – so, yes, we’ve gone for the easy option.

And what kind of property does York have in abundance? Yup, that’s right, apartments… and some very nice ones, too, judging by this week’s offerings.

So, without further ado, here are the highlights.

Starting with an “executive lifestyle” pad in Mawsons Court, right in the heart of the city in an exclusive courtyard development sited just off Walmgate. With two bedrooms, bathroom and open-plan living area incorporating an attractive kitchen with integrated appliances and a lounge offering scenic views and complete with private parking and secured electronic gated entrance, this is ideal for the city dweller, say marketing agents Quantum. It is offered at a rental of £800pcm.

Also from Quantum and “because size does matter” – their words, not mine! – this is a big and beautiful second-floor flat in Blossom Street, within easy walking distance of the railway station and city centre. Larger than most city flats, say the agents, it is offered part furnished and includes a large lounge with sofa, table and coffee table, a very large main bedroom with double bed, a second double bedroom and a spacious dining kitchen with cooker and (here’s that word again) large bathroom with bath and shower cubicle. The rental is £675pcm.

Letters Ltd can also offer a canny couple, the first of which is in Speculation Street. A good-sized, newly decorated, unfurnished first-floor flat situated within the city walls it has a smart reception room, newly fitted dining kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge-freezer and plumbing for washing machine, dining table and chairs. There are two double bedrooms with wardrobes and a bathroom. The rental is £695pcm.

Then there is a second-floor apartment in Trafalgar House, Piccaddilly Plaza, which is offered furnished. Smart offering, too, with a reception room with laminate flooring opening onto a fitted kitchen with electric oven and hob, fridge freezer, washing machine and microwave. You have one double bedroom with double bed and a good-sized single bedroom and bathroom. An allocated parking space is included in the rental of £725pcm.

Martin and Co have an equally well-positioned city-centre pad, this one in Woodsmill Quay; a “superb” first-floor apartment, it offers an entrance hall, lounge with feature window, two double bedrooms, kitchen with appliances, bathroom with shower over, secure door-entry system. The rental is £695pcm.

And not to be outdone, Hudson Moody can chip in with an exclusive studio apartment in Stonegate Court, off Blake Street (you couldn’t really get closer to the city centre).

Offered part-furnished, the bullet points here are sitting room, bathroom, open-plan fitted kitchen and a mezzanine sleeping area. (Trés trendy or what?).

It is offered at a rental of £675pcm.

Upstairs, downstairs, meanwhile, Stephensons have one ground floor and one first floor apartment (both in good city-centre spots).

The ground floor flat is in St Andrews Court, St Andrewgate (nicely placed away from the hubbub but very close to shops, bars and restaurants). Set in a pleasant courtyard area, it offers a 16ft lounge, fitted kitchen with cooker, washer and fridge, a double bedroom and bathroom. It has the added advantage of a garage (rare in a city centre property).

The rental is £625pcm.

And, up the apples and pears, we have a first-floor apartment in Jupiter House on Lawrence Street, within walking distance of both city and university.

Here there is a lounge, fitted kitchen with range of integrated appliances, two double bedrooms, an en-suite shower room and a family bathroom. Allocated parking and communal gardens complete the picture. The rental is £725pcm.

Another property that’s handy for the city centre yet tucked away in a quiet spot can be found on the books of Linley and Simpson. It is a one-bedroomed duplex apartment in County House, Monkgate, just outside the city walls.

Recently redecorated and recarpeted, the flat has an entrance hall, kitchen/diner, a double bedroom and bathroom. On the mezzanine level there is a living room and office/dressing room. Secure allocated parking with this one, too, at a rental of £675pcm.

And now, in our traditional last but not least spot, we have a cutie in Castlegate offering nice accommodation with the added benefit of its own garage. On the books of Reeds Rains, it provides a spacious dining kitchen, separate lounge, two bedrooms (master with en-suite) and a bathroom.

The rental is £750pcm.
