YORK RI Amateur Bowling Club’s David Attwood was beaten in the under-25 singles by this year’s surprise package Nathan Kotek (North Duffield) 21-15.
And in a further blow, York RI Amateurs’ Ray Calpin, Geoff Symons and Mal Thompson felt the full force of Mark Walton’s Nafferton triple.
However, York did have something to celebrate by the end of the day.
Shipton BC’s Hayley Macdonald triumphed 21-12 over last year’s U18 champion, Katy Baxter, of the Driffield Recreation BC.
Macdonald got off to a flier and soon raced to a 14-4 lead, one which she was not to give away as she secured her first county title.
While the well-contested finals day was taking place at York RI Amateurs BC, the annual J Rymer U25 singles tournament was being staged in West Bank Park.
The title went to Adam Liddell (Clifton), who defeated Emily Clarke (Dunnington) 21-20.
Neil Macdonald (Holgate) walked away with the highest placed U15s’ award having reached the semi-finals at just 12 years of age.
His campaign ended when he took on Clarke but it was a superb effort from the youngster.
