A NEW roundabout to ease traffic on the A1079, near Pocklington, has been officially opened.

The ceremony was carried out yesterday by Coun Kay West, the chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Other dignitaries also attended the opening after local contractor, Wold Construction, completed the new roundabout.

It forms part of an agreement between East Riding of Yorkshire Council, local landowner Henry Thirsk and The BroadHelm Venture, which is developing a new business park at the site.

The junction between Hodsow Lane and the A1079 has been closed and two new roads have been built to link the roundabout to West Green, Pocklington, and Main Street, Allerthorpe.

It allows for provision in the future of a further road link that will open up part of BroadHelm’s new 27-acre development.

Coun West said: “The roundabout will help relieve congestion in the area and improve safety and access. The old junction meant motorists had to wait for long periods for a break in traffic, but the new roundabout will mean less waiting and make it easier for traffic to join the A1079.”
