In certain quarters, the name Alice Gold is being banded around as the one to watch. As a bright young talent, Gold takes influence from certain 1960s starlets, notably Julie Driscoll, Sandie Shaw and pre-Broken English Marianne Faithful.
But mostly Alice Gold sounds like a new Melanie. The quirky Seasons Change and fluffy Runaway Love are probably the most accessible tracks of the set. But at times Ms Gold steps too deeply into the psychedelic world for comfort.
Although Seven Rainbows shows promise, overall the songwriting is wishy-washy and lacks direction. At the end of this seventh rainbow, one may find some pleasing trinkets, but real treasure can not be found.
