WALKERS of all ages are set to go back in time as part of a challenge to raise money aimed at helping the battle against dementia.
The Memory Walk is a yearly event which sees towns and cities throughout the UK hold sponsored walks and this year York has been picked as one of the cities to be one of the distinguished flagship events.
Last year walkers in York managed to raise thousands of pounds for and the Alzheimer’s Society, organisers of the walk, said they anticipate this year will break all records.
The event will take place on Sunday, September 28, and this year there will be a range of vintage vehicles and activities, stalls, games and entertainment taking place on Knavesmire throughout the day.
All walkers are welcome to get into the vintage spirit by dressing up in clothes from their favourite period. The event will also coincide with the annual rally organised by the York Historical Vehicle Group.
There are three walks to chose from – all leaving from Bustardthorpe Field on the Knavesmire – including a one-mile route on the racecourse, a six-mile walk around Bishopthorpe, and a ten-mile route for those looking for more of a challenge. For more details visit memorywalk.org.uk
