A CHARITY barbecue at a York pub, the Castle Howard Ox in Townend Street, raised £530.50 for Help for Heroes.

The event was organised by Paulette Arnold, of Clarendon Court, York, whose 27-year-old son, Gary, serves with the Royal Engineers and safely returned home from service in Afghanistan in April.

She said the event earlier this month included a “brilliant” show by a young magician called Adam.

She said: “The kids absolutely loved him. We also had a face painter called Maggie, who painted both children’s and adults’ faces.”

She said she was surprised so much money had been raised, as the barbecue had clashed with so many other events in York that day.

She said there were unclaimed raffle prizes with green tickets for 116-120, 411-415, 336-340, 51-55, 441-445, 321-325 and 351-355 and 346-350. “People should go to the pub with their ticket to claim their prize,” she said. “Any unclaimed prizes will be given back to the people that donated them.”
