THE long wait is over today as Selby District Council moves into its new headquarters.
Staff and councillors today move into the new Civic Centre building, part of the New Selby War Memorial Hospital project, marking a new era for the town.
Mark Crane, leader of the council, said: “This is clean, modern building with facilities that are state-of-the-art.
“Everyone, staff and councillors alike, are extremely excited about the move to the new building and have been working hard to ensure that the transition goes smoothly.”
Facilities at the new Civic Centre include a modern council chamber, state-of-the-art office facilities and meeting rooms, and a wide range of recycling facilities, previously unavailable at the Portholme Road site.
Coun Crane said: “Council staff have long been aware of the limitations of the old civic centre which has been in a poor state for a long time. I’m sure all council staff will enjoy the environment at the new building and it supports our drive for further efficiencies too.”
Residents of Selby have been advised that front line services will be unaffected by the move, but some disruption may take place during the changeover.
