City of York Council has secured £4.65 million to plan transport improvements to tackle congestion by increasing use of and access to all forms of sustainable transport.
I would have thought that maintaining existing bus services should come before “making improvements”.
I am, of course, referring to the recent axing of the evening buses to and from Easingwold and the villages north of York via Clifton Green and Shipton Road, Rawcliffe.
Although largely funded by North Yorkshire County Council, these buses were important to many and served areas with absolutely no alternative services.
Additionally, when the later evening local service buses to Rawcliffe and Skelton were withdrawn a couple of years ago City of York Council issued a statement saying the Easingwold services provided an alternative… and they’ve now gone.
Perhaps a fraction of this £4.65m could be used to reinstate the axed Easingwold services.
