A MAN and woman from York have been injured in an attack which led to a road in Leeds being cordoned off by police.

Officers were called to the Chapeltown area of the city at about 2.20pm today following reports of a man being chased. A 36-year-old man was taken to hospital with facial injuries, while a 29-year-old woman is believed to have suffered a fractured arm.

West Yorkshire Police said their car, a green Ford Focus, is also thought to have been targeted and is being analysed by officers. The area was sealed off to allow forensic teams to investigate, but no weapons were found at the scene despite reports of a machete being carried.

A spokesman for the force said the investigation is at an early stage, although the incident is believed to have been a "targeted attack", and nobody has been arrested. Anybody with information should call West Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060 606.
