NORTH Yorkshire cave and mountain rescue teams could benefit from Government funding for the first time.

The Government is giving £200,000 across the UK to help the organisations who help people in trouble on and under the country’s highest hills.

Among them are the Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team and the Upper Wharfdale Fell Rescue Association.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander said: “This recognises the valuable and unique work that volunteer mountain rescue teams do across the UK and will help support the costs of expensive rescue equipment.”
