RESIDENTS in York are being given the chance to have their say on where they vote at election time in the city.

City of York Council is required to undertake a review of polling districts and stations every four years and a consultation on the current system and potential changes has now been launched.

The authority’s chief executive and returning officer for elections, Kersten England, said she hoped residents would give their views on whether the existing facilities were suitable for voting in particular constituencies and council wards and if they are accessible to everybody.

The review will assess current polling areas and the buildings and rooms where polling stations are based, and local political parties, parish councils, disability awareness groups, community organisations and electors will all have the chance to contribute.

Comments can be e-mailed to electoral.services@york.gov.uk or sent to the electoral services manager at the Guildhall, York, YO1 9QN, by August 31.
