A man living in the East Riding of Yorkshire has won £1 million in August’s Premium Bond draw.
The lucky bond, number 36QH851562, was bought in August 2002. The winner has total holdings worth £29,999 and becomes Ernie’s 258th Premium Bond millionaire.
Back in 2008 a premium bonds winner from York claimed a £100,000 prize, following media publicity.
The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, matched the random numbers generated by Ernie for the September draw.
That old bond
THERE is something rather quaint about winning on the Premium Bonds. Once they were as regular a fixture as the pools, these days all we seem to hear about is people winning grotesque sums of money on the lotteries.
Now we’re not saying we’d turn down the recent £160 million Euro jackpot, but the £1 million won by someone in East Yorkshire sounds far less terrifying to deal with.
It’s is still a life-changing sum of money, but on a more human scale; easier, perhaps, for the recipients to handle.
There’s still a place for good old ERNIE.
