Fulford are taking up the chase at the top of division one in the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League.

The first team beat rivals Dunnington to go second in the table, four points behind leaders Poppleton. Fulford were without three regulars as they put their hosts to the sword, winning 63-45 as stand-ins Arran Tate and Patrick Herriott won an admirable 17 games. Fulford 2, meanwhile, toppled Dunnington 2 56-52 to go second in division four behind run away leaders Rowntree Park.

Ed Barker-Wyatt and Ben Dyer won 25 games as Pocklington beat visitors York 62-46. York gained revenge though as their fourth team beat Pocklington 2 63-45 to keep alive their hopes of promotion from division seven. Ben Storey and Ben Walker won 31 games to help Wigginton 2 record the largest division one victory of the season – a 91-17 success at home to Bubwith. Division two chargers Rowntree Park took the first round against Copmanthorpe 22-14, but Cop rallied to win 56-52. With Appleton Roebuck losing at home to leaders Poppleton, the win lifted Copmanthorpe out of the bottom two, giving them a good chance to avoid the drop.

Castlegarth were unable to take advantage of Park’s reverse as they drew with York 2, who levelled with an 8-4 final rubber win by captain Bob Audsley and Andy Potter. Tim and James Hunt were only two games shy of a perfect score for division three leaders Stamford Bridge in an 87-21 romp on Sutton-on-Derwent’s grass courts. Knaresborough King James and Sherburn kept up the chase with assured wins.

Fourth-placed Boston Spa 2 dropped off the pace. A battling 27 games from Tim Baker and Will Ziegler, including a final rubber 11-1 win, were needed to escape with a draw at home to struggling Cawood.

Division four leaders Rowntree Park 2 beat hosts Copmanthorpe 2 63-45. Rob Triggs and Baptiste Briu have proved a valuable third pair replacement, this week winning 20 games.

Castlegarth 2 edged back from an early deficit to narrowly win their home tie with Manor CS 55-53.

Richard Corrigan and Jonny Kay returned half of Bishopthorpe’s score in a crucial 56-52 win at Heworth which all but assures them promotion from division five. Bubwith 2 thrashed Sheriff Hutton 82-26, with Rob Jackson and Tommy Harkanyi excelling with 33 wins, while 27 from Jack Bass and Pete Glanville helped move York 3 up to fourth.

David Lloyd 2 trounced Poppleton 3 in a division six promotion showdown. All three Lloyd pairs scored freely to record an unexpected 71-37 result which puts four points between them and the chasing pack.

An undefeated 25 games from Dave Tomlinson and Ollie Brooke, was not enough for Cliffe as they lost 66-42 at Wilberfoss 2.

Division seven leaders Stamford Bridge 2 preserved their 100 per cent record as they walloped Wigginton 4 94-14. All three Bridge pairs scored 30 or more, with Lewis Neave and Jonny Killgallon leading the way on 34. An unbeaten final round 22-14 win helped Bishopthorpe 2 snatch the points at home to Wigginton 3.

Starbeck 3 were gifted a walkover as hosts Boston Spa 3 were unable to provide a playable venue.
