Updated: A POWER cut left more than 1,100 homes and businesses without power in towns and villages around York and East Yorkshire.
A spokeswoman for CE Electric initially said the fault, which was reported at 6.44am, had been caused by “a fault on the electricity network”.
Speaking after the power had been restored, the spokeswoman said: “The power cut was caused by a fault on the overhead line network. A conductor was found to be grounded and the overhead lines hanging down towards the ground.
“There were approximately 1,115 properties affected in Newton-on-Derwent, Sutton-on-Derwent, Wilberfoss, Kexby, High Catton, Low Catton, Stamford Bridge and Barmby Moor.
“CE Electric UK would like to apologise to customers affected for the inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience.”
Engineers from CE Electric attended the site of the downed power lines and repaired the fault at about 12.20pm.
Last week, a power cut left almost 1,000 properties in York without electricity for about an hour. Customers at 976 homes and businesses in Margaret Street, Long Close Lane, Foss Islands Road, Navigation Road and Walmgate were affected by the fault on Friday.
The CE Electric spokeswoman said the incidents were not related, as last week’s was due to damage to an underground cable caused by a third party.
