A 21-year-old apprentice stonemason from North Yorkshire is to compete in an international orienteering competition.
Josh Beech, a third year apprentice with Anelay Masonry Ltd of Osbaldwick, is a member of the Ebor Orienteers and Knavesmire Harriers, and will take part in the competition in Finland later this year.
Since he took up the sport five years ago, Josh came 20th in the Elite British Championships in Sheffield, and was 318th out of 1600 competitors at another Finnish competition in June.
He said: “I love the sport because I get to travel to places I wouldn’t normally visit.
“You have to keep constantly pushing yourself to improve on your time. It’s amazing to meet people that have been doing this sport for over 70 years. I hope that it’s something I can always do.”
