POLICE have arrested a driver who was four-and-a-half times over the legal limit, as they tackle drink and drug-driving.
Since June 1, North Yorkshire Police have made 90 arrests, 48 of which have led to charges, with the force saying this sends a clear message to all motorists that driving under the influence of drink or drugs will not be tolerated across the region.
A 55-year-old woman was spotted by two concerned motorists while driving on the A64 near York. Officers breathalysed the women and she was found to have 153 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
On July 1, an elderly man was arrested when found driving the wrong way along the A64 at Barton le Willows.
No one was injured during the incident, but traffic sergeant Ian Pope said it highlighted the effects drink can have on a driver’s judgement.
