The York Super 7s bowls tournament will be back soon and entries are being taken for both this and Clarence Gardens Bowling Association’s end-of-season double triples tournament.

The innovative Super 7s is entering its seventh year since being initiated by York bowls stalwart John Stroughair.

As a departure from regular bowls, teams give themselves nicknames and are urged to wear coloured kit rather than traditional whites. Pairs players play half of their ends at skip and the other half at lead, while triples are rotated so everyone gets a turn at lead, second and skip.

There are usually men’s, ladies’ and mixed team competitions.

The double triples competition is due to start on Wednesday, August 17, and the deadline for entries for both tournaments - by phoning Stroughair on 07855 944592 - is Friday, August 12.
