A SILVER surfer from Tadcaster has learned how to use the latest in digital telecommunications at the age of 90.
Esther Blackhouse, who was born in 1921, has been using her latest skill to speak to her daughter in Montana, USA, through the free video phone service Skype.
Esther is a resident at the £7.4million Popple Well Springs extra care housing estate in Tadcaster, which has a room dedicated to internet use.
Margaret Goodwin, national internet champion for Age UK, also taught Esther about streaming television shows, and gave her some money-saving tips.
Esther said: “I really enjoyed speaking to my daughter in Montana.
“Afterwards Margaret even showed me how to watch my favourite period dramas on my laptop.”
Margaret said: “Esther took to Skype like a duck to water.”
“Being on a pensioner’s income can mean a huge financial adjustment. You need all of the bargains you can get and the internet is the best place to find them. The World Wide Web has something for everyone.”
