ONE of the biggest spells in Simon Dyson’s 11-year career as a professional golfer starts at around eight o’clock British Summer Time tonight in America.
That’s when the world number 48 reaps the dividend of last week’s stunning Irish Open conquest by starting in the World Golf Championship Bridgestone Invitational tournament in Akron, Ohio.
After four rounds of the keenest competition – there are no midway cuts in the WGC series – Dyson will then jet out from Ohio to Georgia for the last major of 2011, the USPGA Championship.
High finishes in either, or both events, would thrust Dyson further up the world rankings towards a top 30 place, where his manager Chubby Chandler has speculated he belongs.
Malton & Norton GC’s Dyson is one of the later starters at Firestone, which heralds the comeback of Tiger Woods.
Dyson will be partnered by America’s Bo Van Pelt, the 36-year-old whose career earnings have amounted to more than $14 million without actually winning a top-class tournament.
Dyson’s Irish victory was his fifth in his last six years on the European Tour.
