WITH reference to The Press on Friday July 29 in connection of the article regarding “Bridging the Gap”, relating to the new bridge that is being built on the end of Navigation Road, over the river Foss to link up with Hungate, this would be well used by residents of the area, and also the students from York St John’s University, which has a lot of flats on Navigation Road.
The fact that it will be a footbridge for cyclists and pedestrians should relieve the pressure on Foss Islands road.
But sorry to say that Navigation Road itself is a rat-run for Morrisons supermarket, so people and cars are a danger down this area. Residents are very nervous about crossing the road.
Some history for you is that Palmer Street, on Hungate, was the area of a Sgt Palmer, a huge built man who kept Hungate area out of trouble with his police baton.
Mrs B Pettitt, Navigation Road, York.
