POCKLINGTON Fire Station is appealing for people within the local community to become a retained firefighter.

These fully trained personnel will be part of a dedicated emergency team that works within the community and is ready to respond to incidents at a moment’s notice.

Dan Meeke, from Humberside Fire and Rescue service, said: “Being a retained firefighter is a way of helping your community while receiving expert training and delivering an essential emergency service. Many of our current retained firefighters fulfil this role alongside their full time job with the support of their employer.”

The Retained Duty System (RDS) is an integral part of community emergency response. Personnel will be called upon to rescue victims from road traffic accidents, undertake community safety work, and save lives.

Applicants need to live or work within five minutes of Pocklington Fire Station and be flexible with prior commitments to ensure they are ready to respond to emergency calls. For details, phone 01482 883850 or go to humbersidefire.gov.uk and click on the careers section.
