MATTHEW CROWL was a clear winner of the Shepherd Angling Club’s Summer Outing Trophy on the River Don at Sprotbrough.
The river was running low, but the fish responded fairly well and the York club had their biggest turn out of the season, with 18 anglers taking part.
Crowl fished long pole over groudbait, catching skimmers, roach and hybrids from peg 16 in the middle of the length for a weight of 19lb 7oz.
Second place was taken by Ian Hardcastle, at peg seven, who had a couple of bream in his catch of 11lb 14oz.
Meanwhile, the York and District Amalgamation of Anglers are staging their Veterans’ Jack Cross Trophy match on Wednesday.
The contest will be held on Marley pool at Laybourne Lakes, taking up all pegs. The draw will take place in the venue’s car park at 1pm.
