BACK-TO-BACK trophies saw York Cricket Club’s under- 15s ‘A’ team bring down the curtain on another successful season.
The Clifton Park youngsters won the York & District Junior Cricket Association’s Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire Championship final and then, 24 hours later, added the President’s Cup.
The double triumph is a repeat of their clean sweep from 12 months ago.
Despite losing two games in the regular season, York came through the play-offs to beat Sheriff Hutton Bridge in the Championship final at Heworth.
Dunnington were their opponents in a re-arranged President’s Cup final at Bolton Percy after the original fixture at Clifton Alliance was rained off.
York batted first in both games, and each time posted big scores upwards of 140, with Toby Pratt, Sam Beales and Ryan Waite anchoring the innings.
Opening bowlers Adam Maltby and Charlie Elliott took some key early wickets in both matches.
The Bridge and Dunnington middle orders succumbed to York pressure as they tried to accelerate the run rate and rescue the matches.
In both matches, York’s opponents came well short of their victory target.
John Calder, of sponsors Hirepoint, presented the Championship trophy and Paul Wilkinson, chairman of the Association, presented the President’s Cup.
