HUNDREDS of children are learning football the York City way at popular summer camps throughout the region.
York City In The Community have begun their Summer Holiday Camps where former Minstermen defender Darren Kelly and his coaching colleagues are passing on the tricks of the trade.
Youngsters have been put through their paces in a series of training drills in the mornings before using their new skills in afternoon matches and games.
And demand has been such that City have said that, wherever possible and should space be available at the venues, additional coaches will be added to ensure everyone is accommodated.
Paula Stainton, community manager, said the camps were proving hugely popular, with youngsters clamouring to sign up.
Spaces are still available and, next week, the camps move on to York City’s Wigginton training ground, Selby Abbey Leisure Centre and Derwent Junior School in Osbaldwick Lane.
The Wigginton camp runs from Monday to Thursday and Selby’s from Tuesday to Friday, while Derwent School, based in Osbaldwick Lane, are holding a Multisports camp on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, tomorrow sees the club’s Family Day take place from 11am to 3pm at Bootham Crescent.
Admission is free and the first-team players will be on hand to sign autographs.
At the event, the plans for the new Community Stadium will be on show for supporters to take a peek at in the Family Room.
