YORK’S king of swing Simon Dyson got his groove back to improve his position immeasurably at the half-way stage of the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational tourney in Ohio.
After an opening seven-over round of 77 left him joint last alongside Open champion Darren Clarke, Dyson recovered his poise with a defiant four-under 66 to lift him almost 20 places up the field.
The world number 48 posted five of his six birdies on the inward nine after birdying the first hole. His only blips were bogeys on eight and 14.
It was a stark contrast to the first day when three dropped shots on the outward nine – he started on the tenth – were followed by a double bogey six at the third and another dropped shot at the fourth.
Although Dyson then birdied the sixth, he gave that shot straight back at the seventh as he closed on 38. But the five-time Euro Tour winner will start the last two rounds in a better frame of mind.
