MAXINE GORDON heads to York Maze for a great family day out.
Why? Now in its ninth year, York Maze has established itself as a must-do attraction each summer (and also at Hallowe’en). Its appeal lies in the fact there is plenty to do (most of it included in the admission charge) and it is really well run with lively, helpful and friendly staff. The maze itself may seem like the obvious highlight, and while this is fun, most kids will remember the giant slide and the tractor rides which invariably leave you drenched in water. Make sure the kids keep their elbows tucked in on the giant slide to avoid nasty burns. A maze of illusions, giant pillow trampoline, and adventure playground are all included in the admission with a small charge for crazy golf, moped rides and a catapulting water balloon challenge. Don’t miss the animal farm and the regular pig racing. Get there early to place your bets.
Refreshments? Yes, there is a large station selling barbecue items as well as a covered café with outside decking selling a selection of tempting and fairly priced sarnies, salads, cakes and hot drinks. Ice cream and drinks stations are spread throughout the site.
Family friendly? Doesn’t get better.
Parking? Lots and free.
