THOUSANDS of music fans have packed tents and donned their wellies to face the elements at a weekend of festivals across the region.
The busy weekend of events includes Leeds Festival at Bramham Park, the Galtres Festival, in Crayke, and Limetree Festival, in Grewelthorpe.
The three-day Leeds Festival will see performances from headliners My Chemical Romance, Muse and The Strokes.
Other acts taking part across include Pulp, Elbow, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Pete Doherty, Frank Turner, The Streets and Liam Gallagher’s new band Beady Eye.
Meanwhile, the Galtres Festival was welcoming local bands as well as headliners The Charlatans, British Sea Power and The Levellers, and the Limetree festival organisers promised five stages of acts including global jazz, soul, funk, dubstep and folk artists, bands and DJs.
Martha Hodge, 26, of York, said she was looking forward to the weekend at the Galtres Festival.
She said: “I’m looking forward to seeing some fine Yorkshire acts. The weather will be fine – it’s only a bit of water. The rain won’t stop the music or dampen our spirits.”
But cars queued for one-and-a-half hours to enter the site yesterday. The main car park had to be closed and an alternative found after vehicles became stuck in the deep mud.
Festival-goers at Leeds ended up caked in mud, but didn’t seem to mind as they waited for the music to begin.
More rain is forecast for today before drying up this evening.
A spokesman for Meteogroup said: “I would suggest people take wellies for the chance of showers today. It’s standard UK festival weather really.”
