A LIBRARY is coming alive for children today as it hosts art and costume competitions, an illustration workshop and talks by illustrators and authors.
The event at York Explore is the culmination of National Children’s Book Week, which has been celebrating children’s literature and reading with events at libraries across the city.
Local illustrator Lynne Chapman, whose works have been used in books such as Bears On The Stairs, will be chatting about her books at 11am and holding a workshop showcasing her illustrative talents at 1pm.
Costume play fans are being urged to come in their favourite costume for a competition being staged at 2pm. Entries for a manga art competition will need to be handed in at noon, with prizes announced at 2.30pm.
Meanwhile, characters from the Jungle Book, who have been appearing at York's Grand Opera House until today as part of a production by the Birmingham Stage Company, also paid a visit to the Explore Library.
