YORK student Frank Fernie faces another wait before learning if his sentence for violent disorder will be reduced.
Appeal Court judges heard his lawyers challenge the 12-month term he was given for throwing sticks at police in London during a TUC-organised march on March 26. The judges then reserved their decision until after ten of the August rioters hear the result of their appeals.
“It’s bizarre,” said Frank’s mother Diane. “Why put Frank in the same bracket as the rioters that stole things? Frank’s was a political statement. Frank went down on a political march against cuts. He wasn’t there to steal anything or break property.”
Charity volunteer and A-level student Frank, 20, of Filey Terrace, Clifton, admitted violent disorder. His lawyers told the court he had gone to London to take part in the march and had “exceptional mitigation”.
