GRANTS have been awarded to health projects in our region in one of the first rounds of hand-outs from the new Health Lottery.

The Princess Royal Trust For Carers, which supports adults and young carers in York, is one of the groups to benefit after being awarded a grant of £46,801, while the BTCV’s Green Gym programme, which offers outdoor physical activity in York, has been given £27,932.

Liz Langwade, senior young carer worker at York Carers Centre, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding and hope to use it to develop our service for young adult carers in the city.”

The People’s Health Trust is the independent charity responsible for deciding where the good causes money raised by local lottery societies is spent.

Chairman Professor Jennie Popay said: “These groups are valuable community assets, involved in a wide range of activities that make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of their communities.

“Our new funding programme will be able to provide the small pots of funding that can be a lifeline to them.”

The People’s Health Trust is now inviting other such organisations to apply for funding. Details can be found at peopleshealthtrust.org.uk
