A CALENDAR featuring naked York bartenders has raised more than £1,000 in support of The Press’s Think, Don’t Swim campaign.
Now organiser Chloe Bowman is hoping last-minute Christmas shoppers will snap up some of the remaining calendars to give as presents.
Profits from the sale of the calendar will help firefighters invest in new safety equipment to help prevent further drowning tragedies following three deaths so far in 2011.
The deaths included that of 21-year-old bartender Richard Horrocks, who died after jumping from a balcony into the Ouse on completing his last shift at a riverside bar.
His death prompted The Press – with the support of Richard’s family – to launch its campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the dangers of falling or jumping in the water.
The calendars are being sold at several bars, including Vudu Lounge, Evil Eye and Bobo Lobos, but Chloe said she had started selling the calendars by mail order after receiving several requests from around the country.
